Fossils of Kentucky, Indiana & Surrounding States
This part of the KYANA website highlights fossils collected in the local region where most of our members live and hunt – primarily Kentucky, Indiana, and nearby states. We’re lucky to sit in an area where rocks from several major geologic periods are exposed, giving us access to a huge variety of fossilized life.
For much of this time, our region was covered by a warm, shallow tropical sea that supported a rich community of marine invertebrates. As a result, local collectors can find brachiopods, crinoids, sponges, corals, bryozoans, cephalopods, trilobites, blastoids, snails, fish material, and many other fossil groups.
Please remember that this gallery is maintained by enthusiastic amateur paleontologists. Identifications are made in good faith, but mistakes and reclassifications can happen as science moves forward.
